The New Year has arrived and everyone is committing to a new goal they have set for 2015. New Year’s resolutions are a great way to motivate yourself to achieve a goal or try something new, however they are generally abandoned by early February. This is solely because, apart from people wanting to dramatically improve their self-esteem, their New Year’s resolutions are usually difficult and hard to maintain.
Even though making a goal to lose weight and live a healthier life is a great ambition, it is always important to make your resolution something that is practical and will make you feel good about yourself in the long run; ideally something that you can adopt as a lifelong habit. Instead of vowing to look like a Victoria’s Secret model by undergoing a boring diet, why not set goals that will make you healthier while also allowing you to have some fun?
So before you pay for an expensive gym membership or buyout your local grocery store’s weight loss supplement section, take a look at these three fun and reasonable resolutions that will simultaneously allow you to feel happier and healthier.
Get Your Heart Rate Up
We live in a world that is full of lethargic behaviors. Binge-watching Netflix and sitting eight or nine hours a day in a chair at your desk can really take a toll on your body, causing you to gain weight or simply feel lazy on a daily basis. Many people find it difficult to dedicate themselves to a workout routine when their days are busy with work, errands and family.
With this resolution, we are not asking you to join a gym or become addicted to working out. We believe that you can, however, incorporate something fun into your day that allows you to get your blood pumping. It could be something as simple as taking a 20 minute walk every morning or in the evening, or it could be something as fun as joining a recreational sports league with your friends.
Working out and losing weight doesn’t have to mean running on a treadmill five days a week, it could consist of anything you want! This resolution not only allows you to get your heart rate up and feel better about your body, but it also allows you to try new things. You could try hiking, rock climbing, paddle boarding, or playing football or basketball with your kids at home just a few times a week.
Don’t let the task of getting in a bit more exercise become daunting to you. Take things in strides and start small, eventually working your way up!
Get More Sleep
It is no secret that working Americans are notorious for not getting enough sleep. Recent studies show that 41 million people (nearly 1/3 of the workforce) are sleep deprived, only getting 6.5 hours of sleep per night, as opposed to the recommended seven to nine hours per night. With our jobs, family, and other responsibilities consuming our time, it’s no wonder why we find ourselves constantly tired.
There are a multitude of reasons why scientists believe we don’t get enough sleep on a daily basis and technology has a lot to do with it. Since we always have our work email, our TV shows and our social networks available to us, we allow those to take priority over a decent night’s sleep.
Well, we are here to tell you that it’s time to put down the cell phone and shut off the TV! A lack of sleep can lead to an array of health problems such as heart disease and high blood pressure, and can put you at a higher risk for strokes. Lack of sleep can also cause you to gain weight. Science shows a correlation between the lack of sleep and the increase in hunger and appetite, along with a decrease of energy. When you are eating more and have less energy to exercise, it can only result in one thing: weight-gain.
If you are one of the millions of Americans who suffer from a lack of sleep, make the resolution to fix it this year by taking the proper steps.
- Shut down your electronics.
- Set a bedtime for yourself and stick to it!
- Exercise 2-3 hours before your bedtime to help you sleep better at night.
- Seek out medication, if necessary.
The steps above are the best ways to approach sleeping problems. Try sticking to a regimented bedtime and exercise more often, as that will allow you to sleep much better. If you try the first three steps with no success, consult your doctor about the possibility of requiring medications to get your sleep back on track. Catching more Z’s is the first step to making yourself feel better and is one of the best resolutions you can make for yourself!
Pamper Yourself
Since our daily lives are so busy from start to finish, it’s difficult to remember to take care of yourself on a regular basis. Due to the fact that most people are so burnt out by the end of the day, it’s not always easy to cut out time to pamper yourself.
A New Year’s resolution that everyone can get on board with is making more time for you! Whether it’s splurging on a new haircare product, receiving a pedicure or getting rid of your cellulite with our new Verjú service, it’s important to remember that feeling good about yourself, starts with making the time to do what you truly enjoy.
You don’t have to have extravagant spa days to pamper yourself. It could be something as simple as buying a new nail color polish one week and getting a facial the next! Whatever allows you to relax and unwind, make it your weekly pampering treat. Don’t forget to see in what ways DreamBody can help you pamper yourself!
A New You for A New Year
Whether you choose to commit to one, or to all three of these New Year’s resolutions, they’re all certain to be a success with the right motivation! Since these goals are realistic, attainable and are sure to yield great results for your body and mind, you won’t be one of the people who abandon their resolution by February!
