Some Things You Might Not Know About Botox

Botox-Before-and-After
  1. Botox is not just for wrinkles. In fact, at least 20 countries (including the USA) have approved Botox for use in helping to curb excessive sweating. Botox is injected into the armpits to help alleviate what is known as severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis. It can also be used for hands and feet. Botox injections in affected areas result in an 82% to 87% reduction in sweating. Botox has also been approved by the FDA to treat chronic migraines. Chronic Migraines are classified as migraines that occur 14 or more times per month. A medical professional injects Botox into specific sites around the patient’s head and neck about every 3 months. Studies have shown that up to 9 headaches a month are prevented when using Botox for chronic migraine. Finally, Botox is effective in preventing acne. Apparently, it causes a chain reaction in areas with large pores and reduces the amount of oil produced. This in turn leads to fewer break outs.
  2. If you are over 40, then a filler like Juvederm may be more effective than Botox and helping you look more youthful and refreshed. That is not to say that you should skip the Botox altogether, but you may want to use more filler rather than more Botox. A few wrinkles or lines are not as aging as drooping and sagginess. Filler can plump up creases, add support to skin, and help reduce the gaunt appearance that comes with getting older.
  3. Botox may wear off more quickly if you engage in exercise that causes you to sweat a lot. It may be that heavy sweating can encourage your body to metabolize the Botox more quickly. So, to make your Botox last longer you may want to swim laps rather than running outside in hot weather. Or, you may want to exchange hot yoga for barre classes. Either way, it is good to be aware of why you may need a refresh more often than your less active friend!
